Wise Women & The Age of Beauty

Working in beauty for the last 10+ years, I am so thankful to see the age stereotypes being shed. With the uprising of models + influencers like Baddiewinkle and Iris Apfel pushing the old paradigm out the door, I happily celebrate that beauty has no age constraints.

Back in the day, I worked at the Clinique counter at Nordstrom at the Grove. During my time there, I got to see a variety of sales tactics my coworkers would practice. On occasion, I would be appalled by the random sales associate that would envoke fear in the customer. My initial reaction was, how rude! Then one day, while shopping with my mother, a woman from the cosmetics counter at Neiman Marcus approached us. She tried to convince my mother to purchase a product because she wasn't "getting any younger". That was it. I immediately stepped into mama bear mode (weird because I was with my mother) and let that woman know where to shove her cheap-ass moisturizer.

That event stuck with me as I moved from Clinique sales associate to VP of Creative for a cosmetics brand. My intention along the journey was to always respectful of the fact that beauty has no age limit or gender. We are all beautiful in our own right. It's incredible to witness the changes the beauty industry is making to catch up to this concept–from Kosas Rising Phoenix campaign from 2018 to Glossier's paid media ads popping up on Pinterest showcasing a variety type of ages and cultures. Over the month, I'll be sharing more of my journey as a creative within the beauty industry.

I'd love to hear what brands and influencers you are loving and why in the comments below. If you have any questions, please reach out. I always love to talk shop with it comes to the art of beauty. Below are a variety of images sourced from Pinterest. If you have any info for these images' credits, please let me know to give them proper credit. Last but not least, share any age diversity models/personalities you are loving. I've only begun to dive into Advanced Style thanks to founder + photographer, Ari Seth Cohen so please share your recs if you too have any favorite stylish older women or men!
