Town Talk's 12 Days of Atwater Village / Atwater Village Farmer's Market

12 Days of Atwater Village: Atwater Farmers' Market For the next 12 days I'll be ringing in the holidays with some of my favorite places and people in Atwater Village. I still can't believe it's only been a year since Sam and I moved to this awe-inspiring east side hood of Los Angeles. During our time here we have made it our mission to explore the neighborhood and because of that we have discovered a sense of community, wonderful locally owned businesses and unique people that make this village a true home. So let's get this conversation going with our first stop: Atwater Village Farmers' Market.

The Atwater Village Farmers' Market is an original pop-up market filled with tons of vendors bringing a mix of locally grown produce, prepared foods and tasty samples. Occurring 8am - 2pm every Sunday, this farmers' market supplies the community with some of the best stuff out there like oyster mushrooms, squash flowers, chiles, fresh herbs and eggs. In addition to the goods, they have some pretty awesome services as well. Sam has taken a fancy to the knife sharpening tent for his tools and I've pretty much traded my brunch card in for Pescadores De Ensenada fish tacos and homemade juice. Now while some yelpers call this market small because it isn't filled with arts and crafts, I call it just right. The size allows you to do the shopping you need and not be a lookie loo. I think one yelper said it best, it's not frou frou and for that I applaud it. Here are the details to help make your visit the best:

The Details:

  • Located at Wells Fargo Parking Lot, 3250 Glendale Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90039 right off of Glendale Blvd.
  • Open Sundays from 8am - 2pm
  • Bring cash. If it slips your mind there is a Wells Fargo ATM onsite.
  • No dogs allowed but you can always sit with them and watch the neighborhood cruisers.
  • Preferred time to go: near closing. You'll have less foot traffic and better pricing for all those veggies you need.
  • Go hungry. The prepared food at this farmer's market is the best. You have options like papusas, fish tacos and pie all in one stop. Perfect alternative to brunch and they have sitting in the center of the market.
  • Parking is free around the neighborhood but just be prepared to search for a spot as Atwater tends to be busy on Sunday.
  • Samples are plentiful and most vendors are very nice. Just don't leave a mess behind.
  • Don't forget to bring your own bags. You'll be able to carry more home.

Do you have a favorite farmers' market? Do you prefer to shop for locally grown produce? If so, let us know in the comment section below. Love to hear how you support your community and what other vendors are bringing to the table!
